A portfolio site for the interior designer Keisuke Fujiwara

Abstract

A portfolio site for the interior designer Keisuke Fujiwara: photographs of his spaces run full width, held up by nothing but whitespace and thin type. Designed and built by one person, from layout to code.

Background

Spatial design is judged through the light and depth inside a photograph. The moment the site starts asserting itself, that information is the first thing to go — so the opening condition was that the interface must never compete with the image.

Method

The layout grammar was written in code from the first day, so nothing was lost translating a mock into a build. Spacing, type and motion all come from the same rules, the photographs run full width, and the interface stays out of view. On a phone the images keep their aspect ratio rather than being cropped to fit.

Outcome

One person carrying both halves kept the site consistent to the pixel — and cheap to keep alive afterwards.
